Storyboards are graphic organizers such as a series of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of previsualizing a motion graphic or interactive media sequence, including website interactivity. (Wikipedia)
Professional storyboardists are both artists and story tellers, and we have a great clip, below, about "Finding Lady" that summarizes the history of the art, beginning with Walt Disney and moving into contemporary Hollywood productions.
But even the amateur videomaker with minimal artistic skills can (and usuallly should) do storyboards. Film students can learn the broad rationale for employing storyboards, and the categories of shots depicted in storyboards in AFI ScreenNation's "Storyboarding."
