DIY $10 Monopod from an Umbrella

This is really clever!

You have to get about 1:15 into this video before the author shows you this monopod and how to make it from a wooden-handled umbrella. In the meantime, he shows you how you can make use of it. As video reaches its end, you have to wonder about the author's fate!

If you watch the video, you can see that, apart from the cost, there are some distinct advantages to this system:

  1. It's easy to move from one location to another as you are filming, walking and then re-stabilizing as you're rolling.
  2. Even if you don't plant the monopod in the ground, it gives your shot added stability.
  3. You can do smooth pans that start high and end low, or vice versa.
  4. When he does his 360 degree spin, he doesn't even have to move his feet!
